VA dental care: who gets it
VA dental is not part of regular VA health care for most veterans. You get it only if you fit one of the dental "classes." The big one: 100% schedular or TDIU gets any needed dental care.
At a glance
| Rating needed | Class IV: rated 100% schedular, or paid at the 100% rate for unemployability (TDIU). A temporary 100% (hospital or convalescence) does not count. P&T is not required for dental |
| Other classes | Service-connected dental condition (Class I, IIA); former POW (IIC); dental condition making a service-connected medical condition worse (III); VR&E participant (V); 180-day post-discharge one-time care (II) |
| Form | Enroll in VA health care (10-10EZ), then ask the VA dental clinic; VA assigns the class |

Traps
- The 180-day clock for Class II starts at discharge. Most people miss it.
- Dental Class IV uses "100%," not "P&T." CHAMPVA and Chapter 35 use P&T. Do not mix them up.
