Tap the list you're filling in, pick where the condition is, then tap its percentage. Tap any chip to remove it.
Add new conditions or higher ratings here. Tip: if you want a rating to go up, leave it out of this list and add the higher one, so it isn't counted twice.

Where is the condition?

Skip this for things like PTSD, hearing loss, sleep apnea, migraines. Use it for knees, shoulders, hands, feet, and similar.

What now?

A rating is a key. See what unlocks at each rating, check your state's benefits, or find out which claim path fits you.

How the math works

The VA does not add ratings together. It uses "whole person" math (38 CFR 4.25): start with the biggest rating, then each next rating only counts against the part of you that is still "able." The result is rounded to the nearest 10 (85 rounds up to 90; 84 rounds down to 80). If you have conditions on both arms or on both legs, the VA combines those first and adds 10% more (the "bilateral factor," 38 CFR 4.26). This tool applies that bonus only when you have entered both a left and a right side.

Pay amounts: official VA 2026 rates, effective December 1, 2025, from va.gov/disability/compensation-rates/veteran-rates/ (checked Oct 13, 2026). Special monthly compensation (SMC) and other extras are not included.
